School Climate Assessment

School Climate Assessments go beyond standard safety measures by examining the needs of special populations, staff wellness, and overall school climate. They also explore the perception of safety among students, staff, and the community, recognizing that feeling safe is just as important as being safe.

Assessment Goals

The goal of the assessment is to provide schools with a clear, data-driven understanding of their climate and behavioral health environment, helping them become safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning spaces for all students and staff.

A School Climate Assessment consists of multiple key components, examining school safety from both physical and perceptual perspectives, student engagement, and the overall learning environment.

Assessment Process

The assessment process for each school includes:

  • Direct observations of school life, including student arrival, departure, and class transitions.

  • A physical walkthrough and exterior walk-around to assess safety, security, and environmental factors.

  • Interviews and discussions with staff and students to understand their experiences and perspectives.

  • Review of policies, behavioral data, online presence, and other documentation to identify trends and areas for improvement.
